YOU ARE MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS
Isaiah 43:1-4
I want to share an inspiring article I read today, written by Muhammad Ali’s oldest daughter. It’s about a time when they arrived at his house for a visit wearing revealing clothes.
When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father's suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.
My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Hanna, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to. Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get to them."
He looked at me with serious eyes. "Your body is sacred. You're far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too." Source: Taken from the book: More Than A Hero: Muhammad Ali's Life Lessons Through His Daughter's Eyes.
How much time do we spend seeing ourselves through the Creator’s eyes?
We are God’s masterpieces; made in His image and called to live out our God-given identity as his sons and daughters. He made us each unique, individuals. No one has ever or will ever walk this earth that is exactly like you. Think for a moment about diamonds. They are one of the most precious items in creation. They are rare, beautiful and highly prized. But they don’t compare to how God values us. You may be feeling pretty worthless right now. Life has probably thrown more at you than you can handle. You don’t feel worth as much as a rhinestone, let alone a diamond. God never said any place in Scripture that he loves a diamond or any gemstone that is precious than mankind. He paved his heavenly streets with gold, pearls for gates and gems to decorate the foundations of the heavenly city. (Revelation 21:19)
Isaiah 43:4 Take heart! You are precious in my eyes, and I love you.
Just let this sink in. 1John 3:1 “What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! “
Once we have a revelation of how valuable we are to our Father it changes our perspective of who we are.
Take courage in the fact that God carefully designed each of your children with purpose. Though as parents we may struggle with feelings of inadequacy of live with financial and physical limitations, our hope rests not in what we do but foremost in who we are as God’s children. When our children are both encouraged and challenged to see God’s great design in the diversity of creation they become change makers and advocates in their own way for God’s love and purpose.
